FOCSIV create a rainbow across Florence for Climate Justice

FOCSIVClimateJusticeFlorence  As part of the international exhibition on climate change and the environment, ‘Terra Futura’, Volontari nel Mondo-FOCSIV created a rainbow of lights across the city of Florence to call for Climate Justice on Friday 28th May. CIDSE’s Italian member also had a stand and hosted two conferences at the event, which will took place on the eve of the UNFCCC negotiations in Bonn this June. Read more  

 




CAFOD and SCIAF call for 40% cuts in Carbon Emissions ahead of EU Spring Council 2010

CAFOD and Trocaire call for 40% cuts
Ahead of the EU Spring Council which will take place on the 25th and 26th March in Brussels, CIDSE member organisations CAFOD (England and Wales) and SCIAF (Scotland) are calling upon supporters to email the British government and urge Gordon Brown to push for a 40% cut in carbon emissions at the crucial meeting of European Heads of State.
After a disappointing outcome in Copenhagen, they are encouraging Prime Minister Brown and other European Heads of State to once more rise to the occasion and show their commitment to fighting climate change by making a pledge to cut emissions by 40% by 2020. Read more...

Nominate Samuel for the Nobel Prize for Sustainable Development

Broederlijk Delen launched their Lenten campaign today by nominating Samuel, a farmer who lives in the Bolivian Andes, for the Nobel Prize for Sustainable Development. By nominating him for a prize which, in reality, does not exist they are hoping to draw attention to the plight of people in developing countries who are suffering disproportionately from the effects of climate change. They also aim to highlight the innovative work of people like Samuel and organisations such as Equipo Kallpa, a partner of Broederlijk Delen, who in response to diminishing levels of rainfall have helped Samuel install an irrigation system in order to help him produce food for his family.
