Advocacy work & priorities
CIDSE aims to influence political decisions and denounce world poverty and structural injustices. We promote and facilitate joint positions, analysis and activities of our members and aim to be an effective and strong voice in international fora.
Advocacy in different areas of work is thus a core priority and a particular strength of the CIDSE network. It is the main area where we become operational as a network. Trade, financial and development policies have a major impact on the life and livelihood of poor and marginalised people in the South. Influencing these policies and working towards structural change is therefore complementary to the programme and project work that CIDSE member organisations (MOs) support. These policies are increasingly shaped by global and regional actors like the International Financial Institutions (IFIs), the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the United Nations (UN) which can be best influenced by joint efforts of MOs from different countries.
Our advocacy work is based on the expertise of MOs and on solid research; on the experience, expertise and participation of Southern partners, and on Catholic Social Teaching.
The current advocacy priorities of the network are: climate change, food security, resources for development, EU development policy, private sector, global governance…
