Programme co-operation is an important part of CIDSE’s work; its members have worked with partner organisations in more than 100 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America for over 40 years.

CIDSE’s Continental Platforms offer its members a space to reflect on, and engage in, regional or continental challenges and explore opportunities for joint development cooperation work. The platforms are also responsible for identifying lobby and policy processes, as well as project themes for the CIDSE Country Working Groups (CWGs), and for supporting them in implementing resulting activities.

Impact assessment, coordination and strengthenening of Southern advocacy

In 2009 a Heads of Programme (HoP) Forum was officially established to oversee and monitor activities on the main three strategies of CIDSE’s cooperation programme: impact assessment, coordination and strengthening of Southern partners’ advocacy work. These strategies, which will be implemented in 2010, aim at improving the effectiveness and impact of our joint programme work, while extending and deepening collaboration among our members and with partner organisations in the South.

At the end of 2009 a newly established impact assessment group agreed to share practices and develop a set of indicators to measure impact and started reflections on how change happens. The discussions on the impact of our work are framed in the context of the international and national debates on aid and development effectiveness. The HoP forum has also started a step by step approach to identify opportunities to improve coordination of programme work.
