Second international Fact-Finding Mission: The Right to Food in Guatemala – CIDSE

Second international Fact-Finding Mission: The Right to Food in Guatemala

On November 24, 2014, the second international mission on the right to food in Guatemala was launched. The international members of this mission are: APRODEV, CIFCA, CIDSE, TRUST, VIA FARMER and REL-UITA. CIDSE is represented by its member organizations Broederlijk Delen (Belgium) and Trócaire (Ireland).

The first fact-finding mission took place in 2009. Four years later, organisations consider necessary to visit Guatemala once again in order to follow-up on the recommendations made on the final report of the mission. The mission will express our support and international attention to the important demands made by Guatemalan civil society organisations in relation to the right to food, right to housing, water and earth, and the protection of human rights defenders, as well as supporting the capacity building of national and local authorities, providing recent information on the new programs and plans that are being planned or implemented in favour of the right to food and human rights defenders.

A preliminary report of the fact-finding mission was presented at a Public Forum in Guatemala City on 4th December. See press release.
