Climate and Energy
In October 2018, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a special report highlighting the increased urgency of limiting global warming to below 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Switching to sustainable and efficient energy systems globally is crucial to achieving the 2015 Paris Agreement signed by the EU and other 194 countries.
Communities are responding to climate change with integral solutions that tackle the systemic origin of the issue. Watch our panel at the Virtual Climate Summit webpage on 22 November from 17:45 to 18:45 CET.
Problems of access to energy, with communities not being able to afford energy produced in their region and at the same time having to deal with the impact of that exploitation on their environment is a widespread problem. We have discussed this with Melania Chiponda from WoMin, South Africa, and with Andrea Torres Bobadilla from Tierra Digna, Colombia.
