The European Development Days (EDDs) will take place in Brussels on 5-6 June 2018 with the focus this year on “Women and Girls at the Forefront of Sustainable Development” to promote a safer, more inclusive and open world for women.

After a tour in Bonn (Germany), several cities of Spain and Leuven (Belgium) the CIDSE photo exhibition “Inspire Change” is back in Brussels and will be displayed at the EDDs! You can see it at the A2 expo zone next to the Global Village.

The photos capture the stories of people around the world taking action, caring for our planet and the people living in it. They were selected among the participants and winners of a photo competition launched by CIDSE in February 2017 to engage participants in showcasing sustainable living through photography. The exhibition was carried out within the campaign “Change for the Planet- Care for the People” by the CIDSE network. Don’t miss this opportunity to pass by the exhibition and get inspired!

With other organisations committed to climate justice we will be at the Global Village at stand #74, which has the theme “#StepUp2018 for 1.5°C: Implement Paris and the SDGs”. This stand will highlight the importance of stepping up efforts to implement the Paris Agreement and the SDGs in a synergistic manner. It will look at how accelerated action on key climate, energy and environment goals can benefit society, particularly women and girls, and promote gender equality and human rights, especially those of the poor. The stand will be a space to present multifaceted issues such as the equitable access to energy, climate adaptation, climate resilient food systems, citizens’ initiatives, sustainable lifestyles and financial support for the SDGs and the Paris Agreement. At the stand you can also watch two interviews CIDSE filmed with women engaged in energy justice in Africa and Latin America.

On Tuesday 5th at 10 am, outside the main entrance of the EDDs, watch out for our action “Shoot for #1o5C! Civil society organisations demand stronger action on climate change that empowers women and girls”. To celebrate World Environment Day, together with CARE International, Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, ACT Alliance, WWF and GenderCC, we will organise an action encouraging EDD delegates to advocate for increased climate ambition and to promote sustainable development options to tackle climate change and gender inequalities. The organisations will ask incoming delegates to demonstrate their football skills and shoot to score for climate action in line with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C temperature limit.

CIDSE’s work on gender equality will also be showcased at the EDDs. On Wednesday 6th at 2-3 pm we will give the presentation: “Believing in change: deepening understanding of gender equality in a faith-based context” based on a toolkit to promote gender equality in a Catholic context which was put together by our member in England and Wales CAFOD and is available for consultation here. The presentation will take place at the Concord stand #34, which has the theme “15 Years of Collective Action: women & girls for a sustainable future”.

The Global Village map is available here.

We are looking forward to seeing you at one of our activities at the EDDs!
