Press release: a new video reveals what a clean mine could look like under a more comprehensive EU responsible sourcing requirement

A new video, filmed at the Fungamwaka mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) reveals the working conditions of artisanal miners who extract the minerals that enter many daily life products such as laptops, smartphones and other
electronic devices. The Fungamwaka mine is an example of a "clean mine", where no rebel groups are present to illegally tax the miners, and child labor is banned. In a sector too often dominated by exploitations and human rights violations, this example demonstrates how the sector could be cleaned up under effective regulation.

COP 21: Some steps were taken in climate draft deal, but still a lot to do for the vulnerable

The current negotiation text will soon be adopted as the new and only universal deal on climate change. Mass mobilisation and pressure came from the people as they took to the streets, and it is due to this pressure on politicians that we now see a reference to 1.5 C degree temperature rise target, a mention of the concept of climate justice and a signal to the fossil fuel industry that its time has come to an end.

Yesterday evening a new text of the Paris agreement was released, and CIDSE, alliance of 17 Catholic development agencies, hopes that some key issues will still be addressed before the closing of the negotiations planned for tomorrow.
