Bishops call on EU Tax Summit: stop tax fraud, force corporate transparency

All companies that receive public subsidies must meet strict transparency requirements, tax rules should be strengthened.

As EU leaders prepare to meet at a “Tax Summit” on 22nd May 2013, bishops from Europe and Africa voiced the need for corporate transparency, especially in their dealings with governments, and for the strengthening of tax laws, in an open letter supported by CIDSE. Meanwhile, Pope Francis met with new ambassadors, and reminded them that the financial crisis is rooted in a rejection of ethics. “Money has to serve, not to rule!”, the Pope said, and CIDSE wholeheartedly agrees, and hopes these messages will be heard at the Tax Summit.
