CIDSE’s position, June 2022
The United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) held in New York in September 2021 resulted in the creation of several multi-stakeholder coalitions. One of them is set to promote the development of agroecology.
From the start, this Summit has raised great concerns among civil society organisations (CSOs), indigenous peoples’ organisations and farmers’ and peasants’ unions and the position of CIDSE vis-à vis the UNFSS and its outcomes has been firmly critical .
After a series of internal and external consultations, CIDSE decided not to join the “Coalition for food system transformation through agroecology” yet.
It will periodically reassess its decision against a series of principles of engagement under which it might consider joining the Coalition in future.
