CIDSE@Belém: Connecting people – CIDSE

CIDSE@Belém: Connecting people

NEW: From Belém, a global synodal voice for ecological conversion, joint statement by Cardinals, Bishops, religious orders and organisations, 21 November

CONTEXT

For the first time, after years of COPs in countries and contexts that did not allow for the full participation and mobilisation of civil society, a People’s Summit will be organised from 12 to 16 November, alongside the UNFCCC Climate Change Conference (COP30). Great expectations are being placed on these gatherings in the symbolic location of Belém, close to the Amazon region and indigenous communities at the forefront of climate action.

Together with Catholic and ecumenical actors from Brazil and around the world, CIDSE will be present in both spaces to bring its systemic analysis to the issues raised at the official conference, denounce climate inaction, expose power imbalances and injustices, and propose systemic solutions as well as reparation.

=> Read our Message of Solidarity to activists, grassroots organisers, frontline communities and civil society participants travelling to Belém. We hope that, as you engage with these spaces, you will find it to be a source of inspiration, courage and strength. (Also available in ESFR PT).

This message of solidarity and the Belém Manifestoa collective call to Action for governments and international institutions (also available in ESFRPT) — are the outcomes of the CIDSE Systemic change dialogues held in the run up to COP30 and beyond.
