Omnibus I: the European Parliament must deliver a credible and ambitious approach

Joint statement, 30 October 2025

Ahead of the scheduled vote during the European Parliament plenary session on Thursday 13 November, CIDSE and over 140 EU and non-EU civil society organisations from 27 different countries are urging the major pro-European political groups to come together and secure a responsible, ambitious, and workable agreement on Omnibus I.

This is a critical moment to secure the EU’s role as a global leader in sustainability and corporate accountability.

On 22nd October, the European Parliament voted against the JURI report, which was meant to define its position on Omnibus I ahead of negotiations with the Commission and the Council.

In two weeks, MEPs have another chance to come together and agree on a responsible, ambitious, and workable compromise, one that keeps sustainability and accountability at the heart of EU policy.

An ambitious approach that:

  • Covers more companies
  • Includes a serious climate commitment
  • Guarantees access to justice

…will deliver real benefits for people, the planet, and Europe’s economy. It will give companies a coherent EU framework to prevent harm, safeguard working conditions across supply chains, and enable those affected to seek justice – while strengthening resilience and positioning Europe as a global leader in sustainable business.

Europe’s workers, businesses, and citizens deserve a framework that both protects their interests and prepares our economy for long-term success.

The moment to act is now. We call on members of the European Parliament to re-engage in constructive dialogue, find an effective and credible compromise to protect the standards and norms that have been achieved, and deliver on the commitments that many of you have publicly supported.
