CIDSE launches campaign “Access to Justice”

Stop human rights and environmental violations by corporations

The rights of people and the planet in global value chain are routinely violated by corporations. Yet, victims struggle to find justice. Through the new campaign “Access to Justice” consisting of a video call to action, and tools to understand better the issues of corporate impunity and access to justice for individuals and communities, CIDSE is calling on citizens and volunteers to ask their Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and Member States decision makers to ensure a strong law from the EU.

According to CIDSE, the law, which is currently under construction by the European Commission, should also include strong provisions for access to justice for victims of corporate abuse. Through this campaign, CIDSE hopes to give citizens a better understanding of the need for legislation guaranteeing access to justice and calls for their support for addressing politicians.

We are launching this campaign shortly after the conclusion of the session of the open-ended intergovernmental working group (OEIWG) on transnational corporations (TNCs) and other business enterprises with respect to human rights (Geneva, 25-29 October 2021) and highlight the strong connection between the two processes. Indeed, even though EU legislation might become forthcoming to tackle this problem, it will not be sufficient to prevent and remedy harms around the world but unless it is accompanied by an international instrument.

To make our campaign “Access to Justice” a success, we need your help. Download the letter on the dedicated website, which is available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Send this letter to your member of MEP with your name and tell them to end corporate impunity and ensure justice a fairer world for people and the planet. Send the information about this campaign to friends and family to involve as many people as possible in this important action.
