Glencore in the DRC: Profit before HR & environment

Fastenopfer & Bread for All

Glencore in the Democratic Republic of Congo: profit before human rights and the environment, a study by Bread for all and Fastenopfer/Swiss Catholic Lenten Fund, April 2012. (Also available in DE – executive summary only – and FR)

In a new study, Fastenopfer/Swiss Catholic Lenten Fund and Bread for all criticize the activities of Glencore in the Democratic Republic of Congo: The Swiss commodities group buys copper from middlemen, which has been mined under very precarious conditions, including by children. Moreover, Glencore engages in tax avoidance, violates labour rights and causes massive environmental damage.

Fastenopfer/Swiss Catholic Lenten Fund is CIDSE’s member in Switzerland.
